Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is marked by (primarily ovarian) hyperandrogenemia and ovarian dysfunction. In many cases, PCOS first manifests during adolescence, and both peripubertal hyperandrogenemia and obesity are considered risk factors for the development of PCOS.
